Our Approach

At WeStand Advocacy our Social Engagement Policy we employ an integrative approach of the 4 internationally recognised communication strategies to representative advocacy whilst engaging with the people we support:

● Person-Centered:

We engage, listen, learn and focus on what is important to the person now and in future and then champion that right or interest led by our participant, and when necessary, in collaboration with the circle of support. Our advocacy support is always person-centered where our advocates endeavor to keep our participants at the center of the decisions that affect them.

● Witness Observer:

We watch you in your environment. We observe to see what we can find out about your life, the type of environment in which you are, the way you are treated, how people relate to you. We don’t make judgments but to improve your enjoyment, we may give our opinion on how people in your environment can relate better to you. After a period, we will come back to review how things have changed.

● Ordinary Life Principles (OLP):

We think about our participants’ quality of life and assess how the proposed changes or decisions will affect them. We will intervene and ask the people who are making the decision to think about the impact of the decision or changes from the perspective of our participants. We ensure that all decisions or changes made are in the best interest of our participants.

● Rights Based Approach:

We think about your rights and ensure that you get what you are entitled to. We ensure that you are safe and your rights to use community and public services are upheld. If we believe that your rights are legally breached we will assist you with arranging legal advice.

Our advocates will swiftly intervene where our participants' fundamental rights are being limited. We are empowered to intervene on your behalf and seek redress. In our 16 years of experience, we found this approach to be very effective in delivering our advocacy services.

Notwithstanding our advocates are competent to integrate as well as separate the approaches based on the best strategy for the person they are supporting.
