Independent Advocacy

Independent Advocacy assists people with any type of disability or in circumstances that deems them vulnerable. Independent advocacy include, but not limited to:

● Empowering the person with disability to advocate for themselves by providing them with relevant information and advice

● Providing support to the person with disability; for them to be heard when having issues with individuals, businesses, services or government departments.

We can help you if:

● You are being abused

● Someone legally discriminates against you

● You are not receiving the support you need

● You are dissatisfied with the support you are getting

We can help you to handle a variety of issues such as:

● Educational issues

● Access to healthcare and other services

● Dealing with government departments

● Problems with neighbours, at home or work

● Assistance with Guardianship Tribunal hearings

We will always do our best to deal with your issues as soon as possible. If we cannot help, we will refer you to another organization that can.

Our approach:

● Our advocates will stand with and listen to you about your problem and what you would like to do about it

● Our advocates will support you in solving the problem yourself by giving you suggestions and information

● We will advocate on your behalf if you cannot solve the problem yourself Our advocacy methods will ensure that your needs, interests and rights are promoted and upheld. This we will do by making phone calls, attending meetings and writing letters.
